Tonight We're Gonna Party Like It's... [Insert Appropriate Date] is one of the opening rounds in Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The round debuted on the first episode of series 25. Each team is shown a montage of music videos and music-related headlines from a particular year. The team's first task is to identify the year for a point. Then they are asked a question relating to one of the music videos or headlines for an extra point.
Phill Jupitus' team are shown excerpts from "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" by Culture Club and "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners with the headlines "Michael Jackson's Thriller released", "Ozzy bites head off live bat" and "Snoop Dogg celebrates his 11th birthday".
The year in question is 1982 and the extra point question asked for the reason that Snoop Dogg was expelled from school in that year for one of three reasons:
- Gluing his teacher's legs together;
- Making a bong in art;
- Exposing himself in the lunch queue.
The third option is the right one, but Phill's team guessed wrong so they only get one point.
Origin of the nameEdit
The name of the round comes from a lyric from the 1982 Prince song "1999" - "Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999".
